LGB(T)*? Why the “T” is included when speaking about the community. (Please read)
So I’m taking a class called Sex and Gender Roles this semester, and I must say that it is one of the most profound courses that I’ve taken thus far…not to mention that the professor is very knowledgable, queer, and easy on the eyes.
So far, we’ve covered quite a bit in the course touching on the history of sex, sexuality, anatomy, sex, gender, and now gender ambiguity (eeeep!). With that said I thought I would post not only about the course, and my excitement but post about something that I thought was interesting. In yesterday’s class while talking about about gender ambiguity, we finally got around to the topic of transgender individuals. The professor, was finally able to answer why the “T” is apart of the LGB(T). He stated “Homophobia is tied to gender, LGBT people are seen as not performing gender correctly…society says that men sleep with women, not men. Men don’t wear dresses, or want to be women. The messages we are constantly feed are about our gender, not our sexual orientation.”
I thought this was interesting…and felt that I should share. Interesting huh?
